Rural Internet Broadband Service OptionsLiving in remote rural locations such as the country side or outside larger cities can make getting a high speed Internet connection a problem. Besides a regular 56k modem, your main choice is satellite Internet. Telephone companies can also place an ADSL loop extender at the midway point between the client and the providers central office aka CO, to extend the distance of the DSL connection, essentially offering another option to those in rural areas in need of high speed Internet service. Mobile Internet may also be another selection for you. Access is provided through built in mobile broadband built into your laptop or through USB Modems that connect to the carriers network. Prices can vary but unfortunately not all users may have access to this product depending on where you live and the coverage area. If you call your wireless cell phone provider they usually offer this service, though you may have to purchase additional equipment. One company now offering this service is Clearwire, which is expanding nationwide and offering wimax 4g wireless Internet. Another choice you have besides DSL and wireless Internet is satellite broadband. Because access is offered through satellites, those in rural remote locations usually have access to this type of fast broadband service. Prices for satellite Internet though are much costlier than either DSL or other consumer Internet options. Speeds can vary and on cloudy days or during inclement weather such as rain, your connection can drop or slow down dramatically. Companies that offer high speed Internet via satellite are Wildblue, Hughesnet and several others and prices start as low as 39.99 monthly for home users and can go as high as over 300 dollars a month for businesses. The biggest cost savings are when you combine Internet, phone and television programming. Called double and triple play packages, you can save 10-20% or more than just getting a service on it's own. A satellite or Internet provider has an incentive by providing services that will keep you a customer for a long time to come. Although your options are more limited in rural locations, you can trust that Internet providers want to keep you around. Whatever you do make sure you shop around. There is now more availability for high speed broadband in remote areas for rural Internet service than there were before and more choices are becoming available.
