Have you ever wondered how fast your Internet connection is? Are you getting the speed that your Internet provider promised that you would get? I’m sure that you are curious if your getting what you payed for! The truth of the matter is, broadband is over subscribed. This means that many users are pulling from the same resources. This causes slowdowns in peak hours and it usually means that the speed you were promised when you signed up is not the same Internet speed that you are currently getting. The way to confirm this is through a speed test that will check you DSL, Satellite or Cable Internet connection speed.
An Internet Speed Test is what I do to check if my connection is up to par. This will confirm if my broadband is slow or if it’s my computer that is causing the problems. You can find a good speed test by going to google and searching for “Internet speed test” or replacing Internet with cable, DSL or satellite. Make sure that you shut down all programs that are currently running on your computer or your test might be inaccurate.
So what do you do if your connection is found to be running slow? You can try many tweaks that are found on the net such as pcpitstop or broadband reports. If that does not work you can call your provider and discuss your concerns, but unfortunately there is not much you can do. If you complain hard enough you may be able to get a discount on your monthly fee, but if you have a contract you will have to honor it or face a penalty.
